Rescue Dog

No matter what the reason was that a dog was given up, when he moves to his new home he will always bring with him a certain amount of baggage or bad habits.  Whether it is just a case of simply settling him in and getting him used to a new set of rules, or maybe he has brought with him some minor or even major behaviour problems, whatever the situation, the early days are so important and getting it wrong could have massive repercussions later on - read Max's story below.

Your rescue dog will be looking for a great pack leader to make him feel safe and secure during this stressful transition, and if there are behavioural problems it is never too soon to get started on re-training, in fact, the sooner the better.

Your consultation - We will find out a little more about your new dog and his previous life and family and I will attempt to fill in any gaps as I assess him, I will also give you advice on how to manage his breed - if known.

I will get you on the right track to settling him in as quickly and painlessly as possible.

We will address any problems you are already experiencing and I will talk to you about preventing future problems.

I will show you how to be a great pack leader for your dog.

I will get you started with your basic training - depending on the dog it is usually Sit, Recall and walking to heel.

This list is not exhaustive and the session will be tailored to meet your needs and the individual needs of your dog.

Max's Story

Max is a border collie who was found wandering the streets.  When Max's owners could not be found he went to live with his new family, they loved him dearly but he was extremely thin and clearly very anxious indeed.  His new family were desperate to make him feel relaxed and welcome in their home, but by not understanding how the dogs mind works they accidentally made things much worse and caused Max to become even more anxious to the point where he started self harming.  By getting help sooner they could have settled him in much quicker and would have avoided any trauma and saved themselves a few emergency visits to the vets.
